All-County first team capsules
Justyn Galloway, Reuther
Stats: 15.3 points, 8.5 assists, 7.0 rebounds, 5.5 steals, 21 3-pointers.
Honors: All-Indian Trails Conference Blue (first team); Milwaukee Journal Sentinel All-Area (honorable mention).
Lowdown: The first-year member of the program gave the Bulldogs the leadership they needed on the court. A flashy, pass-first guard, he still scored in double figures in 19 games. “Justyn could have come in and said, ‘It’s my team and I’m going to do what I want to do,’ ” Reuther coach Steve Plato said. “He did just the opposite. He came in and said, ‘I’m not only going to make myself better, but I’m going to make everyone else better.’ He did just that. He did everything that I asked him to do and more. I really believe that he could play at the NCAA Division-2 level and be very successful. He’s very talented.”
Zach Bunch, Tremper
Stats: 11.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.7 steals.
Honors: All-Southeast Conference (first team); Milwaukee Journal Sentinel All-Area (honorable mention).
Lowdown: A high-energy player who was tenacious on the glass (18 rebounds in a victory vs. Racine Park), the senior often played bigger than 6-foot-2. Tremper posted a 7-2 record when he scored 13 points or more. Most importantly, he seemed to really enjoy playing the game. “Flashiest player Tremper has seen in a while,” Tremper coach John Wilhelmson said, referring to the productive two-year starter’s crowd-pleasing dunks during the season. “Great in the open court. Zach really matured as a senior. We sure will miss his bright smile.”
Darell Longstreet, Tremper
Stats: 17.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.2 steals, 29 3-pointers, shot 83 percent from the free-throw line (62-for-75).
Honors: All-Southeast Conference (first team); Milwaukee Journal Sentinel All-Area (honorable mention).
Lowdown: The sky is the limit for the talented sophomore. Already receiving interest from NCAA Division-1 schools, he has the potential to be one of the best players to come out of Kenosha. Recently moved up to No. 2 in the latest state player rankings for the class of 2011 by Wishoops.net. Despite missing four games because of injury or illness in his first varsity campaign, he still scored in double figures in 18 of 19 games and scored 20 points or more seven times. “Got better as the season went on,” Tremper coach John Wilhelmson said. “Very quick first step. Excellent passer. When he quickens his jump shot (catch and shoot), he is going to be awfully tough.”
Josh Cameron, Christian Life
Stats: 24.1 points, 4.3 assists, 4.2 rebounds, 3.1 steals, 42 3-pointers, shot 50 percent from the floor and 83 percent from the free-throw line (98-for-119).
Honors: All-Midwest Classic South (first team); Milwaukee Journal Sentinel All-Area (honorable mention).
Lowdown: The fearless, lightning-quick junior transfer from Parkway Christian finished sixth in the state in scoring and was recently ranked as the 42nd-best junior in the state by Wishoops.net. He is the second CLS player to be named first-team All-County after Grant Johnson became the first last season. “Josh came in and filled some mighty big shoes left by Grant,” CLS coach Steve Powell said. “Josh is the type of player that makes other players around him better. Josh had a career season, but I feel he will put up better stats and be a greatly improved player next year.”
Ruben Williams, Tremper
Stats: 10.0 points, 3.5 assists, 2.2 rebounds, 1.9 steals.
Honors: All-Southeast Conference South Division (first team).
Lowdown: The unheralded floor general always seemed to step up in the big games (14.5 ppg in two contests vs. Division-1 State runner-up Racine Horlick). Suffered what seemed to be a season-ending injury at Racine Case on Feb. 20 when he was taken off the floor on a stretcher. After missing only one game, the durable junior returned for the postseason and helped the Trojans reach the WIAA Division-1 sectional. “Ruben is the heart and soul of this team,” Tremper coach John Wilhelmson said. “He is steady and makes great decisions. He is a true point guard. He is the coach on the floor.”
