St. Joseph’s Ryan Aschenbrener took second place at No. 2 singles at the Midwest Classic Conference Tennis Tournament Saturday at The Prairie School in Racine.

The Lancers also got third place finishes out of Chris McKeon at No. 3 singles and Ben Anderson at No. 4 singles in finishing third with 22 points. University School won the eight-team tournament with 56 points while Prairie was second with 38.

Aschenbrener opened by defeating St. Catherine’s John Murphy 6-2, 2-6 (10-7) and Prairie’s Conner Leipold 5-7, 6-3 (10-7) to get to the championship match. In the final, University’s Rishi Karri prevailed 6-0, 6-1.

McKeon and Anderson both went 2-1. St. Joseph’s No. 2 doubles team of Jack McKeon and Zachary Wenta took fourth place. At No. 1 singles, the Lancers’ Harry Feuerbach was fifth.

Tremper third

Jake Humphreys took first place at No. 2 singles as Tremper finished third at the Raider Invitational in Sheboygan.

Humphreys breezed to the crown in going 3-0. The top seed, Humphreys defeated Madison Memorial’s Michael Schnaar 6-0, 6-1, Sheboygan South’s Nathan Zalewski 6-1, 6-0 and second-seeded Taylor Waibel of Sheboygan North 6-3, 6-0 for the title.

Sheboygan North won the eight-team tournament with 25 points. Fond du Lac was second with 23.

Tremper got a second-place finish from its No. 1 doubles team of Tomas Goldsmith and Connor Hilderbrandt. Seeded first, the Tremper duo won 6-1, 6-2 and 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 before bowing to Fond du Lac’s Jason Dunn and Troy Winkler.

Goldsmith and Hilderbrandt won the first set 6-4 before dropping consecutive 6-1 sets.

Taking thirds for Tremper were David Carswell at No. 1 singles, Adam Gagliardi and Jake Riley at No. 2 doubles and Jake Larsen and Zach Cooper at No. 3 doubles.

SLC Meet

Wilmot was sixth and Central was seventh at the Southern Lakes Conference Meet at Badger High School in Lake Geneva. Badger won the seven-team meet with 38 points.

Wilmot scored six and Central had three.
