Big 2nd half fuels Carthage
The Carthage men’s soccer team scored all six of its goals in the second half in blanking Millikin 6-0 in a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match Wednesday night at Art Keller Field.
Rafal Zalewski snapped a scoreless tie with a goal assisted by Tyler Cortez in the 55th minute. The Red Men (3-6-4, 2-2 CCIW) then broke the match open with three goals in the next 20 minutes. Tyler Peterson scored an unassisted goal in the 64th minute, Andrew Gamarra scored on an assist from Josh Khoshbin in the 66th minute and Mark Goldsberry found the back of the net on an assist from Jordan Innis in the 75th minute.
Kosta Minchev, a kicker on the school’s football team, closed out the scoring with a pair of goals in the final three minutes.
The Red Men outshot Millikin, 20-9.
The Big Blue (5-8-1, 0-3 CCIW) were held to just four shots in the first half.
Carthage hosts Elmhurst in a CCIW game 1 p.m. Sunday.
Reds fall on road
Debbie Kozlowski’s potential game-tying shot with two seconds remaining was denied as the Carthage women’s soccer team lost to Millikin, 2-1, in a CCIW match in Decatur, Ill.
The Reds dropped to 0-4 in the CCIW (5-8 overall).
Millikin’s Megan Schroeder broke a 1-1 deadlock with a goal in the 87th minute.
Carthage’s Rachel Jason scored unassisted in giving the Reds a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute before Millikin tied it in the 46th minute on a goal by Allison Horne.
Carthage outshot Millikin, 16-7.
The Reds host North Central in a CCIW match 1 p.m. Saturday.
