Guttormsen second
Bradford freshman Karyn Guttormsen was the runner-up in a Midwest Qualifier Tournament over the weekend in Milwaukee.
Seeded sixth, Guttormsen won her first four matches before losing to Homestead freshman Aly Coran in the final, 7-5, 6-3. In the fall, Coran went undefeated en route to winning the WIAA Division-1 State title.
The top eight received a berth to the Midwest Closed Tournament, which begins June 28 in Indianapolis.
In earlier matches, Guttormsen defeated Bridget Noack of Hartland (6-3, 6-0), Division-1 State runner-up Katy Allen of Waukesha (6-1, 7-5), Maddie Johnson of Onalaska (7-5, 6-1) and Cricket Gelderman (6-3, 6-1). Gelderman knocked off No. 2 seed McKenna Edwards in the semifinals.
Guttormsen was one of four players selected to compete in the Davis Cup Championships June 15-18 at Purdue University.
