Bradford finishes third in own tournament
Karyn Guttormsen, Trina Capelli and Kim Jozefiak won singles championships as the Bradford tennis team took third at the Bradford Invitational Saturday.
After receiving a first-round bye, Guttorsmen beat Wateford’s Kristina Kamer 6-0, 6-0 and Racine St. Catherine’s Taylor Brewster, 6-0, 6-0 for the No. 1 singles crown. Capelli beat St.Catherine’s Grace Nelson 6-0, 6-0, South Milwaukee’s Mallory Wesley 6-0, 6-0 and Prairie’s Sophie Main 6-1, 6-2 for the No. 2 singles title. Jozefiak beat Racine Horlick’s Keri Keillmann 6-0, 6-0, Middleton’s Maddie Zdebl 6-3,6-1 and Prairie’s Becky Leffler 6-1, 6-3 for the No. 3 singles championship.
Middleton was first with 26 points while Prairie took second at 25 and Bradford was third with 23.
Also for Bradford, Marissa Garretto took fifth at No. 3 singles; the No. 1 doubles team of Paige Pfarr and Alana Wamboldt was fourth and the No. 2 doubles team of Alyssa Perugini and Hannah Zimmerman were fifth.
n St. Joseph claims Quad: St. Joseph won flights at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles in winning the Elkhorn Quad.
The Lancers were first with 15 points while Elkhorn took second with 14.
Amanda Dick was the No. 1 singles champion. She won all three of her matches in straight sets in improving to 13-1. Kendall Bonnin and Sophie Manley teamed up to win the No. 4 doubles flight. They won each of their matches 6-1, 6-1.
n Tremper 10th: Freshman Megan Humphries went 3-1 and won the consolation championship at No. 1 singles at Tremper took 10th at the two-day 16-team Nicolet Sweet 16 Inviational.
Also for Tremper, Emily Raben and Marissa Lucke went 2-2 to take seventh at No. 3 doubles and Garrette Gessart went 2-2 at No. 2 singles.
