Central boys volleyball team cuts up Papermakers
The Central boys volleyball team tuned up for the postseason by sweeping Kimberly 25-14, 25-17, 25-16 in a non-conference match on Monday night in Paddock Lake.
After winning the Southeast Conference Tournament title on Saturday, the Falcons (26-7-2) played at a high level against the Papermakers, who were probably regretting the 300-mile round trip.
“We’re starting to get our edge back right now,” Central coach Wayne Schultz said.
“We’re playing with a lot of intensity. My guys are working hard.”
Central was ranked 10th in the latest Wisconsin Coaches Association state poll.
Jim Schulz had a double-double for the Falcons with 15 kills and 11 digs along with three service aces.
Matt Feivor and Nick Manning chipped in seven kills apiece and Feivor also added three blocks.
Other Central leaders were Dayton Erickson (27 assists), Justin Joerndt (11 digs) and Mike Michelau (eight digs).
Second-seeded Central hosts seventh-seeded Beloit Memorial in a WIAA regional final 7 p.m. Friday.
In other 7 p.m. regionals, South Milwaukee is at Bradford and Tremper is at Muskego.
