Falcons stall in fourth

The Central girls basketball team managed just five points in the fourth quarter in falling at Oregon 57-43 in a Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division-2 regional quarterfinal game.

The 11th-seeded Falcons were flirting with an upset after a 20-point third quarter.

Thanks to a pair of 3-pointers from Aliya Willis and five points each from Jaela McGill and Megan Ziesman, Central was within six at 44-38 at the end of the third quarter.


Central loses seventh in a row

Central’s losing streak reached seven with its 66-41 defeat at Elkhorn in a Southern Lakes Conference game on Tuesday night. ... Christina Pitts led the Falcons (4-15, 3-10) with 10 points, Aliyha Willis added eight, Madison Stanczak scored seven and Megan Ziesmann contributed six. ... Erin Schahczinski (20 points) and Nicole Enger (16) paced the Elks (10-10, 7-6), who led 18-10 after the first quarter, 34-20 at halftime and 52-32 after three.

Union Grove too much for Central

Central was held to just four points in the first quarter and never recovered in falling to visiting Union Grove, 66-40, in a Southern Lakes Conference game. ... Central’s Larkin Langston had 12 points, while teammate Megan Ziesman scored 10. ... The Falcons (4-12, 3-7) trailed 12-4 after the first quarter and fell behind 29-18 at halftime.

Wilmot girls’ defensive pressure sinks Central

PADDOCK LAKE — Wilmot’s girls basketball team knows being strong defensively is going to be key to a big season.

The Panthers could not have played much better defensively in a 67-22 thumping of host Central on Friday in front of a big crowd as the first part of a girls/boys doubleheader.

A fresh start for Central girls

Fans of the Central girls basketball team will definitely need a scorecard to identify the team’s personnel — at least early in the season.

Led by new coach Ruth Buehler, the Falcons will take to the court this year with no seniors on the roster. In addition, stalwarts from last year, Abbie Reeves, Hayden Kreuger and Lauren Zietsma, have graduated.
