The 2009 high school girls golf season should be an interesting one, or at least a transitional one, as three of the four Kenosha County teams have graduated their top player from last season.

Gone are Bradford’s Gianna Tenuta, the Southeast Conference Player of the Year, along with Tremper’s Joanna Young and Wilmot’s Brianna John.

Tenuta (UW-Whitewater) and Young (Carthage) are both going to continue playing golf in college.

In fact, only four of the 10 players who formed last year’s All-County first or second teams are returning — Bradford senior Ashley DeFazio, Wilmot senior Kailee Wahlter, Tremper sophomore Jaime Elsen and Central senior Jenna Lasco.

All four teams have begun practicing and/or are playing their first meets this week, so the time is now for the aforementioned players’ replacements to start making their own impacts. Here is a look at each team:

Bradford

*Coach: Joe Pascucci, third season

*Last year: The Red Devils went 8-0 in Southeast Conference dual meets and finished first at the SEC Tournament and in the overall league standings for the third time in four seasons. ... Won first County Tournament since 2005 and fifth consecutive regional title. ... Placed fifth at sectional. ... For the second consecutive season, Tenuta was medalist at the County Tournament(43), SEC Tournament (87) and regional (77). She was also sectional runner-up (77) and tied for eighth in Division-1 at the WIAA State Tournament with a 12-over 156 total (77-79).

*Top returning player: Ashley DeFazio (48.7 average), Sr., first-team All-County, second-team All-SEC.

*Last year: The Falcons finished third at the County Tournament, sixth at the Southern Lakes Conference Tournament, eighth in the overall SLC standings and seventh at the regional, where Alex Noonan fired a team-best 108.

*Last year: The Trojans went 5-3 in SEC dual meets and finished fourth at the SEC Tournament and third in the overall league standings after winning the conference tournament and their second-ever league title in 2007. ... Also placed fourth at the County Tournament, fourth at regional and sixth at sectional. ... Elsen (94) led Trojans at regional, and Young (92) paced them at sectional.

*Top returning player: Jaime Elsen (49), So., second-team All-County.

* Last year: The Panthers finished second at the County Tournament, seventh at the SLC Tournament and finished sixth in the overall SLC standings. ... Also placed sixth at regional, where Brianna John (100) and Kailee Wahler (102) each individually qualified for sectional. At sectional, John and Wahler each shot 93 and didn’t qualify for the State Tournament. ... John (49) finished runner-up to Tenuta (43) at the County Tournament at Brighton Dale as those players were the only two in the field to break 50.
