When the UW-Parkside women’s basketball team takes the floor at Olivet Nazarene tonight, it will be doing so with a freshly-minted Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week.

Junior center Brittany Hogen received the much-deserved honor after posting career highs in points (28) and rebounds (21) in Saturday’s 85-70 victory over Robert Morris in Somers. The 20-20 game was the first in school history. On Sunday, Hogen added eight points and 15 rebounds in a 72-45 victory over Cardinal Stritch.

“Brittany deserves recognition for the weekend she had,” Parkside coach Jenny Kenesie said. “She battled on both ends of the floor and was a beast underneath.”

Hogen is averaging a double-double with 15.2 points per game and a GLVC-best 10.2 rebounds per game.

Parkside (8-1) faces an interesting test in Bourbonnais, Ill., tonight.

Olivet Nazarene (5-6) plays an extreme up-tempo style taking the first available shot primarily from beyond the 3-point arc. The NAIA school is averaging 94.7 points with 44 3-point attempts per game.

Simone Corburn averages 15.3 points per game to lead the Tigers.

Soccer players honored

Parkside’s Jamie Lieberman, Matt Gloshen, Niklas Boedts and Johnson Thao earned a spot on the inaugural National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-State Team.

The 14-player team is comprised of players from the four NCAA Division I (Marquette, UW-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee and Wisconsin) schools and one Division II (UW-Parkside) school in the state.

Lieberman is a senior goalkeeper from Racine. Gloshen is a junior defender from Traverse City, Mich. Boedts is a sophomore midfielder from Bueren, Germany. Thao is a senior forward from St. Paul, Minn.
