Guttormsen, Savaglio win titles
Bradford freshmen Karyn Guttormsen and Michael Savaglio were both victorious in the Racine Tennis Club’s Junior Open over the weekend.
Playing in the Girls 16 bracket, the top-seeded Guttormsen defeated third-seeded Amanda Timm of Milwaukee, 6-4, 6-3, in the final. In the second round, Timm knocked off Waukesha’s Katy Allen, who was the runner-up at the WIAA Division-1 State Tournament in the fall.
In earlier matches, the 14-year-old Guttormsen beat Kelly Cowles of DePere (6-0, 6-0), Christina Schaupp of Green Bay (6-2, 6-1) and Madeline Carney of Naperville, Ill., in the semifinals (6-0, 6-1).
Guttormsen has won 18 of her last 20 matches with the only two losses coming in a tournament in Las Vegas.
In the Boys 14 bracket, the top-seeded Savaglio defeated Eric Ciszewski of Pleasant Prairie in the final, 6-1, 6-1.
In earlier matches, the 14-year-old Savaglio defeated Thomas Camilleri of Milwaukee (6-0, 6-0) and Robin Engel of Fox Point in the semifinals (6-4, 6-0).
