Elsen logs a career-best
Kenosha’s Jordan Elsen posted the best 54-hole score of his college career and the sixth-lowest in University of Wisconsin men’s golf history on Sunday at the Wolverine Intercollegiate at Radrick Farms Golf Club in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The UW senior finished in a two-way tie for fourth out of 78 golfers at 8-under par 208 (71-68-69). Elsen made 14 birdies and six bogeys in the two-day tournament, which Michigan won at 24-under 840. The Badgers (882) placed 10th out of 14 teams.
Elsen’s previous 54-hole best was a 208 at the 2008 St. Mary’s Invite, where he tied for third — the highest finish of his college career.
Werwie ties for 14th
Kenosha’s Carly Werwie, a junior on the Wisconsin women’s golf team, finished in a two-way for 14th out of 90 golfers at the Lady Northern Invitational.
The 15-team tournament, which included all 11 Big Ten teams, was played Sunday and Monday at University Ridge Golf Course in Verona, the Badgers’ home course.
Werwie matched her career 54-hole best with a 7-over 223 (74-74-75). She tallied five birdies, 10 bogeys and one double bogey in the tournament, which Purdue won with a tournament-record 1-over 865. The Badgers placed sixth at 44-over 908.
Werwie also fired a 10-over 223 (75-72-76) at the 2009 Duramed Collegiate Invitational, where she tied for fifth — the highest finish of her college career.
