A flurry of RBI singles lifted Kenosha Sports PT past the Kenosha Merchants 8-7 in a game at Simmons Field Monday night.

The outburst, courtesy of Nate Mikolas, Trae Wayens and Tyler Thomas, came in the sixth and helped PT overcome a 5-4 deficit in the sixth inning.

Earlier in the inning, Jon Jon Colas’ single scored Chris Millard to tie the game as PT won its sixth consecutive Region 7 Legion game.

John Stevens also contributed to the victory.

The win came after Millard hit .688 in leading PT to the title of the Beloit Legion Brodie Trophy Classic last weekend.

Millard was 11-for-16 with five extra-base hits, 11 runs and two walks in helping Kenosha defeat the U-17 Union Grove Mariners, U-17 Beloit Legion and U-17 Janesville Legion en route to the championship. Millard also pitched seven innings while giving up six hits and five walks with eight strikeouts.

Millard finished off the tournament by going 4-for-4 with four runs, two doubles and a triple. He also drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the fourth inning.

Kenosha won its three-team pool with a 14-5 win over Union Grove. Stevens led the way by going 3-for-4 with four runs while Millard was 2-for-3 with three runs and Debartolo was 2-for-3 with a homer. Gunnar Neale tossed four no-hit innings with seven strikeouts for the victory.

Sports PT advanced to the championship game by blasting Beloit 15-7. A six-run inning, with RBI doubles from Millard, Neale and Ryan Furtney broke the game open.

In the title game, contributions from Waynes, Thomas, Joel Hollow, Ryan Rodiger and Neale helped Kenosha overcome a 3-0 deficit to Janesville during a 16-8 triumph. Colas was 4-for-4 with a run while Stevens, Millard and Furtney also contributed.

The Merchants take on the Burlington Legion Post 79 Bandits at 6 tonight in a Lakes Area Legion League game at Beaumont Field in Burlington at 6 tonight.

Kenosha (18-4) was ranked third behind DePere and No. 1 La Crosse in the inaugural Wisconsin American Legion Baseball State Rankings.

Twins top GC

The Kenosha Twins used 13 hits to cruise by host Genoa City 13-3 in six innings Monday night at Krisik Field.

The Twins took command early with four in the first on RBIs by Nick Paura and Eric Carter.

After Genoa City got to within one in the second, the Twins pulled away with four in the third behind a two-run double from Tyler Panasewicz.

Alex Newberry went the distance, allowing one earned run with eight strikeouts to improve to 1-2.

“Newberry had good command tonight,” Twins’ coach Mike Tennyson said. “He worked ahead of most hitters and kept them off balance. It was a really nice outing.”

Other offensive contributors were Ryan Neu (double, RBI), Aaron Wermeling (two hits) and Eric Carter (two hits).

“We really hit the ball well tonight throughout the lineup,” Tennyson said. “It’s a lot of fun when a whole team hits like that.”

The Twins are at East Troy tonight.

Kenosha Bobcats

The Kenosha Bobcats U-16 team will be taking on Lisle High School at 3 p.m. at Carthage College today.

The team will also play Kenosha Legion and Morton Grove at Simmons Field beginning at 5:30.
