The Kenosha Kings split a Langsdorf League doubleheader vs. Racine Kiwanis on Wednesday night at Horlick Field in Racine.

Kenosha won the opener 3-2 and lost the nightcap 8-1.

In Game 1, the Kings (16-10, 9-6 Langsdorf) did all their scoring early on Jason Dennis’ RBI single in the first inning and on Ryan Cowhey’s RBI single and a double steal of home in the second inning.

Chad Ori (4-1) earned the win, allowing five hits and two runs (both earned) in six innings. He walked none and struck out three.

Chris Wolcott pitched a scoreless seventh for his fourth save.

In Game 2, Kenosha scored its only run on John Lequia’s first-inning sacrifice fly. Dennis went 2-for-3.

Kyle Stone (0-1) took the loss after giving up four runs (all earned) on four hits in 41/3 innings. He walked four and struck out two.

The Kings will play the Sheboygan A’s in a Wisconsin State League game 7:30 tonight at Simmons Field.

Five Kings are All-Stars

Dennis will participate in the Home Run Derby and represent the Kings at the Langsdorf League vs. NE All-Star Game Friday in Burlington.

A designated hitter and outfielder, Dennis will be joined on the Langsdorf League team by teammates John Hasser, DH-OF; outfielder Andrew Highland; shortstop-pitcher Joe Ferro and pitcher Wolcott. Hasser is an alternate for the Home Run Derby.

The Home Run Derby begins at 6:30 p.m. at Beaumont Field with the game to follow.

The players were nominated by their coaches and voted All-Stars by the coaches.

Merchants win

The Kenosha Legion Post 21 Merchants pounded out 14 hits and rallied to beat East Troy Post 188 10-4 in East Troy.

The Merchants (24-6, 11-1 league play), champions of the National League East Division, trailed 4-1 before Nathan Welch hit a two-run single in the fourth and Joel Bergmann lifted a game-tying sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Kenosha tacked on four more runs in the sixth on Jon Atkins’ two-run triple and RBI singles by Bergmann and Shawn Miller.

“We picked up the intensity on offense tonight,” Merchants manager Peter DiGaudio said. “We came up with some key hits with runners in scoring position. This was a game we should have won and did.”

Matt Lewer went 3-for-5, Atkins had three hits, Dustin Proud doubled and triple and Welch collected two hits.

Welch (4-1) allowed eight hits and all four runs in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out three and didn’t walk a batter.

Kenosha will next play in the Jim Hanus Gopher Classic on Friday in Edina, Minn.

RedDogs fall

Racine topped the Genoa City RedDogs 4-1 in a Langsdorf League game Tuesday.

Taylor Dowden took the loss despite giving up just three runs (two earned) in five innings. Tom Starck fanned eight in four innings of relief.

Genoa City fell to 7-6 in the Langsdorf and 18-9 overall.

Tommy Johnston drove in Starck for the RedDogs’ only run.
