Kings take two from Bandits
Hasser homers, drives in seven in Kenosha’sWSL sweepJohn Hasser drove in seven runs and belted his first home run of the season as the Kenosha Kings swept a Wisconsin State League doubleheader from the Manitowoc Bandits, 5-1 and 10-5, Saturday at Bradford’s Wavro Field.
“Hasser was seeing the ball well,” Kings manager Tim Pulizzano said. “He’s one of my middle guys. He has to do that.”
The second-place Kings (29-13, 16-7 WSL) play a key State League doubleheader against the first-place Lombard Orioles (20-8) today at Madison Meadows Park. The first game starts at 1 p.m. Randy Johnson and Jack Olson will start for the Kings.
On Saturday, Hasser went 2-for-3 in the opener with an RBI double and a two-run homer to right center in the sixth inning.
Ryan Cowhey and Paul Pulera both went 3-for-4 and Ross Conwell went 2-for-3.
Jason Dennis (2-0) gave up one run on five hits in six innings for the win. He walked five and struck out five. Chris Wolcott pitched a scoreless seventh.
In the second game, the Kings scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-5 lead. They broke it open with four runs in the sixth.
Cowhey went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI to lead a 14-hit attack.
John Lequia went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Hasser went 2-for-4 with four RBI. Pulera and Joe Ferro also had two hits.
Bronson Gahagan (1-0) pitched 12/3 innings of one-hit relief for the win. Lequia worked a scoreless seventh.
Starter Dave Foss gave up five runs on four hits and five walks in 41/3 innings. He struck out five.
