Greg Feivor’s scheduling good fortune finally ran out.

Before this weekend, in his decade-long stint as tournament director of the Kiwanis Breakfast Club City Softball Tournament, Feivor had had only one game postponed due to inclement weather. That was the last game on a Friday night, and it was able to be made up early the next morning.

Feivor didn’t enjoy that luxury this year, though, as steady rain Friday night and Saturday morning forced the postponement of the 45th annual event to next weekend at Poerio Park.

“I’ve had good luck with the weather. People kept talking about that, and I tried not to listen,” Feivor said. “I didn’t want to jinx it. That’s why I didn’t want people talking about the weather.”

The first-round men’s games will be played 6 p.m. Friday, weather permitting, and women’s action will start Saturday afternoon. The championship games in each division are set for Sunday night.

Because some teams already have previous commitments for next weekend, Feivor is re-opening registration for both divisions. The men’s division will be capped at 32 teams and the women’s at 16. This year’s event was originally scheduled to include 28 men’s teams and eight women’s teams.

The City Tournament is a major fund-raiser for the Kiwanis. Feivor said Thursday that he expected to garner about a $15,000 profit to be donated to area organizations such as the Shalom Center, Women and Children’s Horizons and Kenosha Police Department Canine Unit. Proceeds will also be used to fund college scholarships for Kenosha students.
