Kiwanis tourney rolls along
After an exhaustive second day that featured 28 games, the usual suspects were left standing in the winners’ bracket of the 45th annual Kiwanis Breakfast Club City Softball Tournament at Poerio Park.
Defending champion Woman’s Touch Painting/Big Shotz successfully navigated to the final four of unbeatens by winning its two games on Saturday by a combined score of 22-8.
Rotary champion DLB/Sports Physical Therapy improved to 3-0 with a pair of blowout victories.
Perennial contender Tirabassi/Coins eked past Chaos Coins 10-9 to go a perfect 2-0.
Native Construction recorded its third straight double-digit victory en route to the quarterfinals.
WTP/Big Shotz defeated Sunnyside/Miller Lite 10-8 before knocking off Turner ReMax/Service Master/Arnies 12-0. DLB blasted Jay Bee Auto/Coins 22-13 before hammering Tarbenders 15-1. Tirabassi knocked off Limbach/Super Sports 18-8 before topping Chaos. Native followed up Friday’s 18-3 rout of Mr. G’s/B&B with a 19-2 victory over Bull & Bear and a 16-4 win over Sunnyside/Limbach.
In today’s winners’ bracket semifinals, Tirabassi/Coins faces WTP/Big Shotz while DLB takes on Native Construction. Both games are at 11 a.m. The tournament concludes with the championship round starting at 6 p.m.
Four teams negotiated their way through the losers’ bracket to stay alive until this morning.
Jay Bee Auto/Coins rebounded from the loss to DLB by beating Chutes & Ladders 18-8 and Chaos Coins 14-9. Jay Bee will face BC Big Stix/Hiawatha/Bull & Bear today at 10 a.m. Big Stix rolled off three victories after losing to Limbach/Super Sports 15-8 Friday night. Big Stix beat Bull & Bear 13-11, on3 Promotional Partners 6-5 and Turner ReMax 14-3.
Joining Jay Bee and Big Stix were Limbach/Super Sports and Sunnyside/Limbach, also set for a 10 a.m. contest today. Limbach/Super Sports bounced back from the loss to Tirabassi by thumping Mr. G’s 21-4, Bill’s Corner Club 17-2 and Tarbenders 18-6.
