Longstreet’s absence, Cameron’s transfer thins talent pool
According to the 25th annual Wisconsin Men’s Basketball Yearbook, the Bradford boys basketball team will emerge from its sectional and advance to the WIAA Division-1 State Tournament in March.
That prediction should come with an asterisk, however, since the publication is under the impression that junior guard Darell Longstreet will be suiting up for the Red Devils this season after transferring from Tremper.

“He is not a part of our basketball program at Bradford High School,” Bradford athletic director Steve Knecht confirmed last week.
After sitting out this season, Longstreet, who is ranked as one of the state’s 60 juniors to watch, could regain his eligibility for his senior season.
Here is a closer look at the 328-page Wisconsin Men’s Basketball Yearbook:
*Top seniors: For the fifth year in a row, no Kenosha County players were tabbed as one of Wisconsin’s top 50 seniors. Josh Cameron, who recently transferred from Christian Life to Racine Park, was ranked 20th. He was also a preseason first-team All-State pick in Division-3. Tremper’s Sam Savaglio was listed in the 51-101 group. Andy Thusius of Shoreland Lutheran, Domenick Tirabassi of St. Joseph and Ruben Williams of Tremper were included among the 95 “other top seniors.”
*Top juniors: Longstreet was the only local player listed as one of the state’s top 60 juniors.
*Top sophomores: Bradford’s Sheldon Cooks was listed among the state’s top 44 sophomores.
*All-City: In addition to Cameron, Longstreet, Savaglio and Williams, Bradford’s Quardell Young to named to the preseason All-Kenosha squad. Longstreet and Savaglio were repeat selections. The WBBY picked 16 All-City teams.
*Rankings: Tremper was one of 22 teams to be named honorable mention in Division-1, while Christian Life was one of 31 teams to be named honorable mention in Division-3.
*Midwest Classic (Central): Shoreland Lutheran was picked fifth in the six-team division. St. John’s Military Academy was picked first. Shoreland’s Justin Dillow, Chris Pierce and Thusius were listed among the 18 players to watch.
*Midwest Classic (South): Christian Life was picked first and St. Joseph fourth in the six-team division. The Lancers played in the Central Division last season. Cameron, who has since transferred, Jacob Rozema and Nick Svehla of CLS and Tirabassi, Jalen Jones and Luke Olson of St. Joseph were listed among the 17 players to watch.
*Southeast Conference: Tremper was picked second and Bradford third in the eight-team league. Racine Park was picked as the team to beat. Longstreet, Young and Zack Akina of Bradford and Savaglio and Williams of Tremper were listed among the 16 players to watch.
*Southern Lakes Conference: Wilmot was picked seventh and Central eighth in the eight-team league. Waterford was picked ahead of Burlington to win the title. Central’s Dustin Milz and Erik Richter and Wilmot’s Mitch Marks were listed among the 16 players to watch.
*Sectionals: Bradford picked as the team to beat in the Division-1 sectional that also includes Central, Tremper and Wilmot. In the Division-3 sectional that also includes Christian Life, Reuther, St. Joseph and Shoreland, the WBBY picked Racine St. Catherine’s as the team to beat.
