Fishing from my stream of consciousness:

* Lou! It didn’t take long for someone to chime in on Lou Rideaux’s hiring as interim boys basketball coach at Tremper.

“First let me say I personally like Lou,” an anonymous poster wrote on kenoshanews.com shortly after Rideaux was named to succeed John Wilhelmson. “Great guy! Tremper has enough talent that they will have a good season. He is not the guy to take them to the next level. It will be status (quo), get to sectionals and lose and everybody will say what a great accomplishment it is.

“Lou would be great to get the kids in the program at a young level and have them believing in the program. Lou, you’re an awesome guy, not the right man for job.”

Not the right man for the job?

This is a man who has served under three of the best high school coaches in the history of this area. At Racine St. Catherine’s, Rideaux served under the legendary John McGuire (for whom the school’s gymnasium is named) and the legendary Bob Letsch and coached for Wilhelmson, the most successful coach in Tremper history.

In addition, the 57-year-old Chicagoan was a girls head coach at St. Catherine’s.

The man’s resume and service has earned him respect and the opportunity to be left alone to do the job.

Good luck, Lou!

* 4 Brett: Count ex-Packer fan Derek of Kenosha as someone who is still solidly behind Brett Favre.

“I used to be a diehard Packers fan because of Favre,” he wrote to me in a recent e-mail. “I am on Favre’s side. I will not watch a Packer game ever again. Green Bay was in the NFC Championship game, and I believe it was not the time to draw a line in the sand with Favre.

“To this day, I do not understand the animosity that the Packers fans have toward Favre except that the Packers PR department has done a great job of turning Favre into a villain.

“I would have kept Favre and let Aaron Rodgers leave as a free agent. ... I said that Favre will still be throwing TDs in the NFL after (Packer coach) Mike McCarthy is fired and so far that is still a possibility.

“I will be rooting for the Vikings to beat the Packers ... but will not watch the game because the Packers are playing in it.”

* Bummer: Don’t even tell me the failed Olympic bid is the most deflating moment in Chicago sports history.

Just off the top of my head I can think of at least a dozen. They are too painful to recount but involve a Gatorade-soaked glove, NCAA Tournament flameouts, Bartman, playoff chokes and unexpected retirements.
