MMQB: First-half knockout
Bradford’s offense was clicking on all cylinders in the first half in Saturday’s 56-20 victory over Tremper in the second round of the WIAA Division-1 playoffs at Ameche Field.
With right tackle Hunter Corrigan, right guard Thailor Bauer, center Casey Taylor, left guard Tony Nicolas, left tackle Nathan Korth and tight end Mitchell Ziegler leading the way up front, the Red Devils ran 34 offensive plays and collected 18 first downs and 337 total yards in the opening 24 minutes.
That’s an average of 9.9 yards-per-play.
Most of the damage was done by Melvin Gordon, who had 12 carries for 119 yards (along with a 36-yard TD reception), and Cody Brady, who had 14 carries for 110 yards.
Quarterback Gino DeBartolo also completed both of his pass attempts for 48 yards and rushed for 28 more.
“I just think that we’re playing pretty good right now,” Bradford coach Jed Kennedy said. “These kids have played with a chip on their shoulder all year. It seems like we have great practices every day. Obviously, we just need to do the best we can to keep it going.”
The undefeated Red Devils will look to do just that when they host undefeated Marquette in a quarterfinal matchup at Indian Trail Academy. While the location was confirmed by the WIAA on Sunday, the date and time of the game is expected to be announced today.
