No. 16 Rangers remain unbeaten
The 16th-ranked UW-Parkside women’s soccer team stayed unbeaten with 3-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory Sunday at Missouri-St. Louis.
Meredith Novak scored from 20 yards out at the top of the penalty box to give UW-P (4-0-1, 3-0 GLVC) a 1-0 lead 1 minute, 24 seconds into the game.
After UM-SL (1-3, 1-2) tied it in the 17th minute, the Rangers went ahead for good on Brynn Darga’s goal off a free kick at 32:44. Shannon Becker tallied Parkside’s final score at 50:22 off an assist by Beckly Zirlin.
UW-P outshot UM-SL 19-11, and Parkside keeper Cassie Glodowski made four saves.
First loss for UW-PThe UW-Parkside men’s soccer team was victimized by two penalty kicks by Johnny O’Mara in a 3-2 loss to host Missouri-St. Louis.
It was the first loss of the season for the Rangers, who slipped to 1-1-1 in the GLVC (5-1-1 overall).
“This is a game we should have won,” UW-P coach Rick Kilps said. “We outplayed them. No question. We dominated everything except the most important statistic.”
After a scoreless first half, UM-SL scored the first goal on a penalty kick by O’Mara following a Parkside handball. The Rangers answered with a penalty kick by Niklas Boedts at 75:42 and a 25-yard bomb by Johnson Thao at 79:29.
The Tritons (1-1-2, 1-0-2 GLVC) sent it into OT on a rebound shot off the post by Ryan Vines at 88:58.
“We need to close out games,” said Kilps, whose team outshot UM-SL 22-12.
At 91:40 in OT, O’Mara tallied the game-winner on a penalty kick after Parkside keeper Greg Fischer was whistled for a foul following a collision inside the box.
Red Men blankedThe Carthage men’s soccer team continues to have trouble finding the back of the net.
Carthage lost to Carleton 1-0 in overtime in a non-conference match at Bell Field in Northfield, Minn.
Carleton’s Timm Wills broke a scoreless tie at 90:57 when he corralled a rebound and connected on a shot past Taao Scarnato (seven saves). Carleton (2-2) outshot the Red Men 18-13.
Carthage (1-2-3) has scored one goal in its last four games and is 0-1-3 in that span.
Carthage women fallThe Carthage women’s soccer team was shut out by Carleton 3-0 in a non-conference match at Bell Field in Northfield, Minn.
Carleton (1-3-1) took a 1-0 halftime lead when Lesley Baseman got an unassisted goal past Carthage keeper Angela Spinelli at 43:20.
The Reds (3-3) also surrendered goals at 59:05 and 80:45. Carleton outshot Carthage 25-10. Spinelli had nine saves.
