No surprise in Danskin
The Danskin Women’s Chicagoland Triathlon has become a rite of fall in the area. So has Lauren Jensen taking her place in the No. 1 spot on the podium.
Jensen, a Muskego resident, won the event for the fifth consecutive time and for the seventh time in eight years Sunday morning at Prairie Springs Park and Lake Andrea in Pleasant Prairie. The triathlon course was slightly different due to construction this year.
“This is always a great venue,” Jensen said. “I did the Trek (Triathlon), the Pleasant Prairie (Triathlon) and now this one. I’ve done all three races at this venue.
“I like the bike course. It was great.”
Jensen topped the field of 1,711 competitors in 1 hour, 3 minutes and 56 seconds. For the second consecutive year, Christine Anderson of Chicago finished second, this time by a mere seven seconds (1:04:03). Jensen competed in the Pro category, while Anderson beat third-place finisher Tracy Kellner (1:06:01) out for the Amateur category crown.
Jensen swam the half-mile in Lake Andrea in 9:29, biked the 12.4 miles in 32:33 and ran the 3.1-miles in 17:46. Her swimming time was the fastest of the morning, while her biking and running time were both second.
Jensen overcame a mechanical problem during the biking portion. She had to stop to fix a rubbing wheel during the race.
Anderson turned in the top bike time of 32:04. Rebecca Bocek, of Caledonia, turned in the fastest run of 27:31 en route to the 20-24 division championship.
Nicole Beddigz of Pleasant Prairie finished 12th overall and first in the 35-39 category in 1:15:10. Fellow Pleasant Prairie resident Kristy Minatto took 31st overall and eighth in the 30-34 category in 1:19:26.
