William Jewell closed with a 12-2 run to surge past UW-Parkside 66-63 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference women’s basketball game at the DeSimone Gymnasium on Thursday night.
UWP led by as many as 16 and held a seven-point advantage with 5 minutes, 5 seconds left when William Jewell embarked on its clinching spurt.
Maddie Nelson’s 3-pointer gave Jewell the lead for good.
Jennifer Blunt scored with 1:46 left to get Parkside to within one with 1:46 to go.
Parkside had a couple of chances to take the lead in the final 1:02 but could not convert. In the final six seconds, UWP committed a turnover and missed a 3-pointer.
The Rangers, who led 40-26 at halftime, dropped to 6-14 and 2-10 in the GLVC while Jewell moved to 9-11 and 4-8.
Gaby Bronson led UWP, which has lost five in a row, with 19 points while Tara Knapstein had 10.
