Perfect Jon Olson helps Kings net a split in Oshkosh
Jon Olson kept his perfect record intact as the Kenosha Kings split a Wisconsin State League doubleheader with the Oshkosh Giants Sunday afternoon at Oshkosh North High School.
The Kings won the first game 3-0 and lost the second game 4-1.
In the opener, Olson (7-0) pitched a two-hit complete game. The former St. Joseph and Carthage standout walked two and struck out six in his 106-pitch gem.
“Completely dominating,” Kings manager Tim Pulizzano said. “He overmatched that team.”
The Kings (31-19, 17-13 WSL) scored two runs in the second inning on an RBI groundout by Robert Bellish and an RBI single by Mike Fuchs. They made it 3-0 with an unearned run in the fourth.
Billy Johnson went 3-for-3 with a double, Mark Cibrario went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and John Hasser went 2-for-3 to lead the offense.
The Kenosha bats were silent in the nightcap. Ryan Cowhey’s RBI single plated the only run in the sixth.
The Giants scored one run off Kenosha starter Jack Olson in the second and added two more in the third and one in the fifth.
“We just didn’t hit the ball,” Pulizzano said. “No timely hits.”
Olson (2-3) allowed four runs on six hits in five innings. He walked three and struck out one. Chris Wolcott pitched the sixth inning.
Ross Conwell went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the offense.
The Kings next face the Racine Kiwanis in the first game of the best-of-three Langsdorf League playoff series 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Horlick Field.
