Post 21 splits again
The Kenosha Legion Post 21 Merchants did not advance past pool play in the 35-team Metro East Wood Bat Showcase Tournament of Champions on Friday in the St. Louis area.
The Merchants split a pair of games for the second day in a row, defeating the Jefferson County Blazers, 4-1, before losing to Edwardsville Post 199, 5-0.
Brenden Schulz tossed a three-hitter with two walks and 10 strikeouts in the victory over Jefferson County. He also went 3-for-4.
Justice Reichwein and Dom Tirabassi both had RBIs for Post 21 (23-5).
Post 21 did not get a hit off Edwardsville lefty Chase Carroll until Schulz beat out an infield single with two outs in the sixth. Carroll did not strike out a batter.
Dustin Proud allowed only two earned runs and was tagged with the loss. He struck out five.
** Bobcats blanked: One day after scoring 14 runs the U-16 Kenosha Bobcats were silenced by Pro Player Academy in a 9-0 defeat. Ryan Furtney started for the Bobcats and took the loss.
The Bobcats face the Fox Valley Indians and the Illinois Royals at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. today at Concordia in River Forest, Ill.
** Kings at Eau Claire: The Kenosha Kings will play the Eau Claire Cavaliers in a Wisconsin State League doubleheader 11 a.m. today at Carson Park.
The first-place Kings are 5-1 in the State League (14-6 overall). Eau Claire (6-6, 23-11) has won 13 games in a row. The Cavaliers drew 1,410 fans to Carson Park for their 4-1 victory over the Winona Chiefs on Thursday.
