Rotary is rolling
It was an eventful start to the Rotary Softball Tournament.
In a first-round pairing between two heavyweights, Tirabassi/Coins plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in defeating Super Sports/Limbach, 11-10, Thursday at Lincoln Park.
“This is a game that could’ve easily occurred Sunday afternoon,” tournament commissioner Jim Fulmer said, referring to the championship round. “It’s unusual for us to have two really good teams play each other in the first round. It was just the way the draw went.”
The pivotal first-round thriller was one of 11 men’s games played in addition to four women’s contests on the opening day of the 37th annual event. The four-day tournament continues 5:30 p.m. today at Lincoln and concludes with the championship round beginning with the women’s final 4 p.m. Sunday.
The opening day crowds picked up as the night progressed, according to tournament director Debbie Capodarco.
“That’s expected for a Thursday night,” Capodarco said. “Overall, it was a great day.”
