Kenosha’s Kay Gierl will be honored by the Wisconsin State USBC Women’s Bowling Association at its meeting next weekend.

Gierl will be honored as a Woman of Distinction at the organization’s annual get-together Saturday in Green Bay. This is another in a line of honors for Gierl. In 2002, she was inducted into the Kenosha Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame for meritorious service.

Gierl has been a fixture in the State USBC WBA for the past 16½ years until her retirement in July.

During her commitment to the board, she had served on virtually every one of the committees, chairing the annual meeting committee for six years.

Gierl called the decision to retire from the State one of the most difficult she has ever made.

The decision, though, will allow her to spend more time with her family. Kay and her husband, Don, have raised four children — Patty, Chuck, Greg and Krissy — all of whom are married with children.

Gierl’s mother, Bernice Molinaro, was responsible for getting Kay involved in the administrative side of bowling since she was involved with both the local and the state board of directors. Gierl was recruited to work at the tournament centers for local tourneys as well as state events.

In 1979, Gierl was elected to the Kenosha Women’s Bowling Association Board of Directors and eventually was elected Secretary in 1986 — a position she continues to hold in the new USBC association.
