Lancers can’t slow down Dominican duo

MILWAUKEE — If it is truly difficult to beat the same team three times in one season, that rule of thumb might not apply to defending state champion Whitefish Bay Dominican.

The St. Joseph boys basketball team struggled containing Dominican stars Duane Wilson Jr. and Diamond Stone, once again, in losing to the talented Knights, 72-55, in a WIAA Division-4 sectional semifinal Thursday at Milwaukee South.

Wilson scored a game-high 37 points — including all 16 of his team’s points in the second quarter — while Stone finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

Lancers cruise to regional crown


Most likely, the St. Joseph boys basketball team isn’t the best shooting team in the state.

St. Joseph advances past Palmyra-Eagle

Bakari Collins scored 16 points and Peter Del Fava added 15 as the St. Joseph boys basketball team held off Palmyra-Eagle 50-42 Friday in a WIAA Division-4 regional semifinal at Madrigrano Gymnasium.

Second-seeded St. Joseph (17-6) will host third-seeded Racine Prairie (15-8) in a regional final on Saturday.

Basketball roundup: Lancers wear down Prairie


The St. Joseph boys basketball team parlayed a big opening quarter into a revenge-extracting 70-53 win over Racine Prairie in a Metro Classic Conference game on Thursday night in Kenosha.

The Lancers scored 24 points in the first quarter en route to their third consecutive win. Prairie won the first meeting between the schools 63-54 on Dec. 18.

Madden beats the buzzer to lift Lancers


Chris Madden capped his best game of the season in dramatic fashion on Monday afternoon.

The senior point guard drilled a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to lift the St. Joseph basketball team to a 62-61 non-conference victory over Walther Lutheran (Ill.) at Concordia University in River Forest, Ill.

St. Joseph boys rally from 18 down to beat Thomas More

KENOSHA — The St. Joseph boys basketball team opened the 2013 portion of its schedule with a victory to remember on Tuesday night.

Trailing by 18 points in the closing minutes of the third quarter, the Lancers rallied for a rousing 79-72 overtime victory over St. Thomas More in a Metro Classic Conference matchup at the Madrigrano Gymnasium.

23 is Lancers’ magic number

The St. Joseph boys basketball team used a pair of 23-point quarters and some precise free throw shooting to win the Lake Country Lutheran Invitational on Friday.

The Lancers did most of their scoring in the first and fourth quarters in downing Sheboygan Lutheran 68-61 to improve to 8-2 and win the title for the second consecutive year.

Lancers blast winless Luther

Pete Del Fava and Alex Foster each scored 13 points as the St. Joseph boys basketball team blasted winless Greendale Martin Luther 56-23 in the in the opening round of the Lake Country Lutheran Tournament in Hartland. on Thursday night.

The Lancers play in the championship game 8 tonight against Sheboygan Lutheran, which defeated the host school 76-63 on Thursday night to advance.

St. Joseph boys in first win over Angels since 2004

KENOSHA — The St. Joseph boys basketball team earned its first victory over Racine St. Catherine’s since Feb. 20, 2004, with a 56-50 home triumph in a Metro Classic Conference game Friday night.

The win snapped a 16-game losing streak for the Lancers against the Angels.

St. Joseph uses 3-pointers to beat Shoreland

The St. Joseph boys basketball team used a barrage of third quarter 3-pointers in shooting past Shoreland 69-55 in a Metro Classic Conference game in Somers on Tuesday night.

The Lancers drained eight 3-pointers in the third to turn a one-point lead at the break into an insurmountable 14-point bulge by quarter’s end.

Dominican duo sinks St. Joseph


KENOSHA — The Whitefish Bay Dominican boys basketball team waited patiently with its bus parked in front of the St. Joseph gymnasium as star sophomore Diamond Stone posed for countless photo requests after the game.

It’s not every day an opposing player receives celebrity treatment.

St. Joseph, Shoreland win season openers


KENOSHA — The St. Joseph boys basketball team rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to pull away from New Berlin West 57-46 in a non-conference season opener at St. Joseph on Friday night.

“New Berlin West is a very strong and well-coached team,” St. Joseph coach Jose Winston said. “They are the type of team we will face every game in our conference. I am extremely proud of both the effort and energy my young men showed tonight.”

Lancers set to dive into tough Metro Classic Conference

KENOSHA — St. Joseph boys basketball coach Jose Winston remembers the fierce competition, gifted athletes and packed gymnasiums of the old Metro Conference.

The third-year coach truly believes those days are coming back.
