Marran: Texting through a classic
Kenosha News sports writer Jeffrey Zampanti called the Bradford football team’s 56-48 victory at Lake Forest (Ill.) Friday night “the most entertaining high school football game I’ve ever seen.”
Almost as entertaining and informative were Zampanti’s text messages back to me at the office concerning Bradford, the shootout and Lake Forest quarterback and Notre Dame recruit Tommy Rees.
Here’s a sampling:
8:01 p.m.: “Rees 8-of-8, 101 yards, TD.”
8:07 p.m.: “This Rees is unreal.”
Marran: More words from you
Marran: And so it begins
Marran: Thanks for your help, ‘Willy’
Marran: A purple storm is a brewin’
Marran: Give the man a chance!
Marran: A little help, please!
Marran: Cub fans, Let me hear ya!

8:11 p.m.: “Unbelievable arm. He’s like a surgeon.”
8:19 p.m.: “Think Peyton Manning on the field with a bunch of high schoolers.”
8:46 p.m.: “35-28 (Lake Forest leading).”
8:47 p.m.: “Let me remind you we’re not even close to halftime.”
8:48 p.m.: “Plenty of time left for a couple more scores.”
9:02 p.m.: “Rees 18-of-20, 242 yards, 4 TDs ... (Bradford’s Melvin) Gordon 5 (carries)-121 (yards), TD ... (Bradford’s Gino) DeBartolo 6-62, 2 TD. 1-of-1, 41 yards, TD.”
9:40 p.m.: “This is a wild one.”

1:09 a.m.: “Probably the most difficult assignment I’ve ever had.”
1:10 a.m.: “I just finished adding up the yardage. Nearly 1,300 yards.”
1:15 a.m.: “Rees 39-54 for 499 yards, 6 touchdowns.”
