All eyes will be on the key Southeast Conference clash between the Bradford and Franklin football teams on Thursday night.

The Bradford at Franklin game, which is for the lead in the SEC, is the only varsity high school football game scheduled in the state on Thursday. Wisconsin School for the Deaf is playing Thursday but the Delavan-based team is visiting the Kansas School for the Deaf in Olathe, Kansas for an 11 a.m. kickoff.

Both schools agreed to the Thursday date in August, Bradford coach Jed Kennedy said, with an eye toward getting an extra day of rest while closing in on the playoffs. Following the Franklin game, Bradford plays Tremper on Wednesday, Oct. 21 with playoffs starting Tuesday, Oct. 27.

“We played Franklin in Week 8 last year and talked about doing it last season,” Kennedy said. “It’s tough playing Friday, Wednesday and then Tuesday. If we play on Thursday instead of Friday, in the long scheme of things, we get an extra day of rest. That’s the main reason for doing it.”

State-ranked Bradford is 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the SEC. Franklin is 6-1 and 5-0.

“The exciting thing about it is is that everyone in the state is going to be watching it,” Bradford athletic director Steve Knecht said. “It should be an exciting game.”
