Thunder blanked by Janesville in regional final
The Kenosha Unified hockey team had its season come to an end with a 7-0 loss to Janesville in a Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association regional final Thursday night at the Janesville Ice Skating Center.
Coming off a State Tournament appearance last season — their third as a co-op team — the Bluebirds (16-5) scored 55 seconds into the game when Ross Mauermann found the back of the net. Janesville made it 2-0 at 11:03 on a goal by Aaron Jacobson.
Mauermann scored his second goal at 3:53 in the second period and Zach Bayreuther made it 4-0 at 4:40. Bayreuther added another goal in the third period. Grant Jahns also scored twice in the third period.
The Thunder (12-10) managed only 13 shots.
Janesville will play eighth-ranked Waukesha Catholic Memorial/Milwaukee Pius in a sectional semifinal on Tuesday. CMH/Pius beat Beloit 7-1 in another regional final on Thursday.
