Those interested in the interim boys basketball coach position at Tremper High School, here’s your chance.

Last Tuesday, Kenosha Unified Coordinator of Athletics Scott Lindgren announced that Dr. Al Savaglio had been named to the post for the 2009-10 season. On Sunday, Lindgren re-opened the search.

“Due to a district hiring procedure, the position should have been posted,” Lindgren said in an e-mail statement. “The one-year interim position is now posted on the KUSD Web site and throughout the district’s schools.”

All applicants are to submit a letter of interest to Lindgren or to KUSD Executive Director of Human Resources Sheronda Glass by noon on Friday.

The hiring hiccup is the latest step in an effort by the Trojans to replace John Wilhelmson, who resigned on Sept. 8.

In 11 seasons, Wilhelmson compiled a record of 166-89 (.651 winning percentage). He cited a desire to spend more time with his family as his reasoning for stepping down.

Last season, Tremper finished 10-6 in the Southeast Conference and 15-8 overall.

Savaglio, a 1979 Tremper graduate, has an extensive coaching background, but no experience at the high school level. His son, Sam Savaglio, is one of the top returning seniors on the team, expected to once again compete for the top spot in the SEC.
