The points carry over to the sectional, which will be held at the Western Racquet Club in Elm Grove on Thursday. The state’s eight sectional champions advance to the State Team Tournament Oct. 23-24 at the University of Wisconsin’s Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison.
The other subsectional, which includes second-ranked Divine Savior Holy Angels, will be played today.
“We did everything right today,” Tremper co-coach Tom Pacetti said. “We didn’t want to have a letdown after winning the conference tournament (on Saturday). The goal was not to lose a match today and set ourselves up for a run at the sectional.”
The sectional’s top four individuals at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, along with the top finisher at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles automatically qualify for the State Individual Tournament Oct. 15-17 in Madison.
At No. 1 singles, Bradford’s Karyn Guttormsen, Tremper’s Megan Humphreys and Central’s Jordan Leslie all won their only match of the day in straight sets.
At No. 2 singles, Bradford’s Trina Capelli won both of her matches 6-0, 6-0, while Tremper’s Garette Gessert lost only three games in her two matches.
One of the matches of the day came in the second round at No. 3 singles when Tremper’s Rachel Shapiro defeated Wilmot’s Dana Chellman, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
“We didn’t want to lose our senior captain,” Pacetti said. “She showed a lot of heart and determination in winning that match.”
Bradford’s Megha Shah also won both of her matches to advance. She lost only five games on the day.
At No. 4 singles, Tremper co-captain Julia Broesch recorded a pair of straight-set victories, while Bradford’s Bryanna VanBlarcom won both of her matches. In her second-round victory, VanBlarcom outlasted Danielle Vidian of Racine Case, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.
Tremper’s Jenna Humphreys and Brianna Riley and Central’s Jessica Hansen and Holly Weber won their only match of the day at No. 1 doubles. Humphreys and Riley knocked off Bradford’s Marissa Garetto and Paige Pfarr, 6-2, 6-1.
Wilmot’s Lynette Bychowski and Chloe Mayer lost a three-set match to Allison Jopke and Bria Panka of Racine Case, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
At No. 2 doubles, Tremper’s Sonja Johnson and Kari Kirkegaard lost only one game on the day in cruising to two victories. They defeated Bradford’s Kim Jozefiak and Alyssa Perugini, 6-1, 6-0, and Central’s Holly Peters and Tara Zeman, 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 3 doubles, Tremper’s Mara Bertog and Hollie White won both of their matches by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores.
