Mostly Cloudy

The Tremper boys basketball team concluded the regular season with its third straight loss in falling to visiting Racine Horlick, 58-37, in a Southeast Conference game.
The Trojans (12-10, 7-7) trailed 27-20 at halftime before posting a five-point third quarter.
Veteran college basketball scribes well-remember Wisconsin coaching legend Dick Bennett’s deliberate style, with his slowdown offense and stifling defense notoriously giving fits to teams with seemingly far more speed and athletic ability.
On Tuesday against Oak Creek, the Tremper boys basketball team must’ve experienced what Bennett’s opponents did all those years.
RACINE — It’s certainly enjoyable when everything goes according to plan and you win easily. But it may be more rewarding when you overcome a series of obstacles to scratch out a lunch-pail victory.
Such was the case for the Tremper boys basketball team Friday, as the Trojans dealt with a bevy of difficulties to earn a tough 50-39 Southeast Conference win at Racine Park, due in large part to Donzel Riggins’ 25-point, eight-rebound performance and some valuable minutes from players deep off the bench.

KENOSHA — Tremper’s Donzel Riggins is on quite a roll.
With his dominating post presence, the 6-foot-2 junior forward scored a varsity career-high 28 points as Tremper defeated Bradford, 64-55, in a Southeast Conference game Tuesday night at the Bradford Fieldhouse.

KENOSHA — At halftime of their Southeast Conference home game against Indian Trail on Friday night, the players and coaches on the Tremper boys basketball team talked about being more aggressive and attacking the rim.
Donzel Riggins not only listened, he did exactly that.

KENOSHA — Tremper boys basketball coach Steve Plato didn’t need to be convinced.
Racine Case is the class of the Southeast Conference this season.
ZION, Ill. — Eliminate a four-minute stretch in the second half and the Tremper boys basketball team might have returned from its border battle with an impressive victory on Tuesday night.
In the first meeting between the teams in recent memory, Zion-Benton outscored Tremper 16-3 in the final 3 minutes, 59 seconds of the third quarter and held off the Trojans for a 77-68 non-conference triumph.

RACINE — Sometimes there are many reasons why a basketball team loses a close game. Friday night at Racine Horlick, reason No. 1 wasn’t difficult to identify for the Tremper boys.
The Trojans made only 4-of-14 free throws, and that helped Horlick escape with a 60-57 Southeast Conference victory.
KENOSHA — The ball bounced off the inside of the rim, and for a split second a missed free throw appeared like it would be the perfect symbol for a huge collapse by the Tremper boys basketball team Wednesday.
Then junior guard Carl Anderson came from nowhere and turned a brutal loss into a wipe-your-brow win.
The Tremper boys basketball team allowed just six field goals in the second half in edging host Oak Creek, 49-43, in a Southeast Conference game on Friday night.
The Trojans (7-3, 3-1) played for the first time since suffering back-to-back losses against Wilmot and Burlington at the Honda Holiday Classic on Dec. 28-29.

If Tremper boys basketball coach Steve Plato tried to bottle all of the good things that his team did during the second quarter of Saturday’s contest against Burlington, it would be nearly impossible to screw the cap back on.

After beating rival Bradford by 30 points on Friday night, the Tremper boys basketball team had an impressive encore performance.

Perhaps all it took was a loss to bring out the best in the Tremper boys basketball team.
Three days after suffering its first defeat of the season, Tremper claimed one of its most lopsided victories in recent memory in steamrolling crosstown rival Bradford 76-46 in a Southeast Conference game Friday night at the Tremper Gymnasium.

KENOSHA — In its first season as a varsity program, the Indian Trail boys basketball team chose to take its lumps by playing a non-conference schedule against some of the state’s more talented teams.
That approach paid off big on Tuesday.
D’Marcco Patrick finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists as the Tremper boys basketball team ripped host Lake Forest (Ill.) Academy, 56-38, in a non-conference game Tuesday night.
The Trojans improved to 4-0 for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
Last season, the Tremper boys basketball team saw a 16-point, fourth-quarter lead go by the boards in a loss to Racine St. Catherine’s.
What a difference eight months makes.
TREMPER 75, MILW. PULASKI 58
Host Tremper produced four double-digit scorers — Brandon Harris (17), D’Marcco Patrick (16), Carl Anderson (14) and Logan Hopf (12) — in its season-opening win. ... Derek Bryant contributed nine points for the Trojans, who made seven 3-pointers and pulled away by outscoring Pulaski 24-10 in the fourth quarter. ... “It was nice to have a nice win to start off,” Tremper coach Steve Plato said. “We struggled at times but it was great to see we weathered through those tough moments and came out on top. To score 75 points was something very special on the offensive end. We had balanced scoring, which is something I’ve stressed.”
