Add another item to Sidney Cooks’ resume: a 40-point game.

The St. Joseph girls basketball player scored a career-high 40 points Tuesday to lead the Lancers to a 67-50 win at Burlington Catholic Central.

Cooks shot 69 percent (18-of-26) from the floor with just three of her points coming from the free-throw line. The Michigan State recruit, recently named to the McDonald’s All-Star Game, added 12 rebounds in 30 minutes of action.

It has been an up-and-down opening few weeks for Tremper’s girls basketball team and Friday’s 61-47 victory over host Indian Trail showcased some of the Trojans’ early-season troubles.

After scoring just 21 points in the first half, Tremper (4-2 overall, 2-0 in the Southeast Conference) erupted for 40 second-half points to put away the pesky Hawks (2-3, 0-2).

With a 14-10 overall record, 9-5 mark (third) in the eight-team Southeast Conference and regional semifinal victory over Indian Trail, the Tremper girls basketball team enjoyed a successful 2015-16 season.

But with several key returning players, 17th-year head coach Rod Gross and the Trojans are setting their sights even higher this season.
