Tremper girls pull away to top Indian Trail

It has been an up-and-down opening few weeks for Tremper’s girls basketball team and Friday’s 61-47 victory over host Indian Trail showcased some of the Trojans’ early-season troubles.

After scoring just 21 points in the first half, Tremper (4-2 overall, 2-0 in the Southeast Conference) erupted for 40 second-half points to put away the pesky Hawks (2-3, 0-2).

“Our play so far this season has been inconsistent,” Tremper coach Rod Gross said. “Sometimes we look like we can play with anybody and other times we shoot ourselves in the foot.”

With a 14-10 overall record, 9-5 mark (third) in the eight-team Southeast Conference and regional semifinal victory over Indian Trail, the Tremper girls basketball team enjoyed a successful 2015-16 season.

But with several key returning players, 17th-year head coach Rod Gross and the Trojans are setting their sights even higher this season.
