KENOSHA — The Bradford girls basketball team kept fighting Tuesday, inching closer and closer to Tremper until the score was deadlocked at the end of regulation.
But in the end, the Trojans were just good enough to win their seventh straight over the Red Devils.
Oak Creek 62, Tremper 26
Tremper mustered just eight points in the first half and was held to six field goals in losing to Oak Creek, 62-26, in a Southeast Conference game. ... Nine Trojans combined for 26 points, led by a team-high seven from Megan Humphreys. ... The Trojans (2-3, 3-6) trailed 26-8 at halftime.
The Tremper girls basketball team is looking to gain some momentum as the holidays roll around, so beating two city rivals is a nice start.
After defeating Indian Trail on Tuesday, the Trojans easily dispatched Bradford, 52-27, Friday in a Southeast Conference game at Bradford Fieldhouse.
ZION, Ill. — There was only one way to describe Sunday’s 101-25 non-conference loss for Tremper’s girls basketball team against Illinois power Marian Catholic, according to Trojans’ coach Rod Gross.
“We ran into a buzzsaw,” said Gross, and he was right.
After losing 73 percent of the scoring from last year’s squad, the Tremper girls basketball team is hoping that a promising batch of newcomers can mesh with the returning players and compete with the top teams in the Southeast Conference.
The Trojans, who finished 10-14 last season (6-8 SEC), are coming off a 39-28 non-conference victory over North Fond du Lac on Friday after suffering a 44-40 loss to Whitefish Bay Dominican in the season opener.
The Shoreland Lutheran girls basketball team will face its biggest Metro Classic Conference test of the season when it travels to Racine Prairie 7:30 tonight.
Shoreland (4-3 overall) and Whitefish Bay Dominican are tied for first place in the nine-team league at 3-0 while Prairie right behind at 3-1 (6-1 overall). Dominican handed Prairie its lone loss on Dec. 4, 64-52.
