Even a lineup of 11 defenders can’t slow down the Tremper boys soccer team.

Jesus Oseguera and Nathan Oster each had a goal and an assist as the state-ranked Trojans continued their onslaught against county opponents in blanking St. Joseph, 4-0, in a non-conference match Saturday night at Ameche Field.

The Trojans, ranked eighth in Division-1 in the latest Wisconsin Coaches Association poll, were coming off an impressive 7-2 victory over Shoreland Lutheran on Thursday.

St. Joseph (5-9-1) played nearly the entire game on the defensive with its entire lineup stacked in front of the goal.

“It was very apparent from the opening kickoff they had very little interest in attacking,” Tremper coach Chris Tindall said. “It’s difficult because soccer is such a tough game to score goals to begin with. When you have to play through eleven players right in the mouth of the goal, the goals are difficult to come by.”

Tremper (12-1-2) held a 2-0 lead at halftime. Oster scored in the 16th minute on an assist from Oseguera and Alex Ridolfi found the back of the net on an assist from Matt Vecchitto in the 40th minute.

Oster then recorded his second assist on a goal scored by Nathan Coe in the 53rd minute. Oseguera closed out the scoring in the 57th minute on a goal assisted by Gabe Puterbaugh.

“We decided to play defensive soccer,” St. Joseph coach Peter Iliev said. “I think we found some success with it. (Tremper) is very talented and a powerful team.”

Iliev credited the defensive play of midfielder Spencer Lemens.

St. Joseph hosts Shoreland in a Midwest Classic Conference match 4:30 p.m. Monday, while Tremper plays at Franklin in a Southeast Conference game 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

CLS takes title

Christian Life won its first two games 9-0 en route to the championship of the Falcon Invitational at Christian Life.

The Eagles (11-5) opened with a 4-0 triumph of Central and a 5-0 thumping of Racine Lutheran. Wilmot defeated CLS 1-0 for its first win of the season to close the tourney.

Jared Ventura, Nick Svehla (who missed much of the tourney with an ankle injury), Dan Rozema and Jake Rozema of Christian Life were named to the all-tournament team.

“It was a great tournament for us,” Eagles coach Alan Krass said. “We came out focused and played very well early. It was a great time for the guys to win this tournament.”

Against Central, Svehla scored twice and Sean Taylor and Ventura each scored once with Rozema recording three saves. Against Lutheran, the Eagles got goals from Taylor, Ventura (on a header from Phillipe Duplessy), Ventura, Drew Tennyson and Scott Rynearson with Dan Rozema getting an assist.

Wilmot got a goal from Jordan Bank late in the second half to top CLS 1-0.

The Panthers went 1-0-2 to move to 1-11-3. Wilmot’s Brandon Jones, Lucas Hefner and Sean Cifelli were named to the all-tournament team while Andre Cuevas and Austin Ahler were named to the second team.

Wilmot tied Racine Lutheran 2-2 and Central 1-1. Cuevas (with an assist from Shane Kilcoyne) and Jones scored against Racine Lutheran. Jones had the Panthers’ goal against Central.

Bradford falls

Madison Edgewood scored in the fifth minute of overtime to down Bradford 3-2 in a non-confernce game in Madison.

The Red Devils (8-6-1) had to play the final 20 minutes of the match a man down after a questionable call following an Edgewood goal.

“Today was a frustrating game,” said Bradford coach Matt Kellner, whose team defeated state-ranked Waunakee on Friday night . “It was one of those games where the referee made questionable choices. I was happy with my team’s overall performance in back-to-back games but to put them under that much pressure and not win the game with a questionable decision against you, it’s definitely a mentally-challenging game.”

Edgewood opened the scoring the 44th minute before Cesaer Gutierrez scored an unassisted goal in the 60th minute. Edgewood got the questionable gal in the 65th minute before the Red Devils tied it in the 67th minute when Angel Camacho converted a corner kick.

Bradford plays at fourth-ranked Muskego Tuesday.
