Trojans cruise past Franklin
After moving up to No. 6 in the latest Wisconsin Coaches Association state poll, the Tremper soccer team recorded three goals in the opening 22 minutes en route to a 3-1 victory on Tuesday over host Franklin.
The Trojans improved to 4-1 in the Southeast Conference and 13-1-2 overall.
The Sabers staked Tremper to a 1-0 lead with an own goal 10 minutes into the match. Attempting to clear, a Franklin defender sent the ball over the goalkeeper’s head.
David Caban scored his team-high 16th goal in the 18th minute, while Henrik Egly tallied his 11th goal off an assist from Joey Masi in the 22nd minute.
“Both goals were noteworthy,” Tremper coach Chris Tindall said. “David’s was from 40 yards out and he drilled it off the crossbar. Henrik was set up when Joey drew a defender to him. It was a pretty clinical ball that was played across.”
Tremper keeper Jimmy Jones lost his shutout bid when Franklin converted a penalty kick in the 79th minute.
The Trojans outshot the Sabers 24-3.
Bradford blankedBradford allowed four goals in a span of six minutes in falling to host Muskego, 7-0, in a Southeast Conference match.
The Red Devils (8-7-1, 2-3 SEC) held the state’s third-ranked team scoreless for 30 minutes before the Warriors (13-0-1) answered with goals in the 31st, 33rd, 34th and 37th minutes.
“We kind of had a breakdown during that stretch and were defending a lot for 30 minutes,” Bradford coach Matt Kellner said. “Muskego is a quality team. They are, by far, the best Muskego team I’ve seen.”
Bradford, which trailed 4-0 at halftime, was missing four starters due to injury and a red-card suspension, according to Kellner.
The Red Devils were outshot 11-2.
Bradford plays Verona in a non-conference match 10 a.m. Saturday at Indian Trail.
Final deceiving for Falcons
Central coach Jeremy Williams said his team more than doubled its opponents shots on goal and dominated play in a 3-1 Southern Lakes Conference loss against Elkhorn at Silver Lake Park.
“We outplayed them,” Williams said. “We lost to (Elkhorn) 5-1 early in the season. We’re really hitting our midseason stride and they look like they’re falling apart.”
The Falcons dropped to 1-5-2 in the SLC (4-10-3 overall).
Central fell behind 1-0 just four minutes into the match when its goalkeeper attempted to clear the ball and it deflected off of a teammate and into the goal. Central tied it in the 13th minute on a goal from Spencer McCoy assisted by Max Byers.
Elkhorn took the lead in the 78th minute and added an insurance goal in the final seconds when Central stacked all of its players up front on a corner kick.
“Basically, we left no one in the back but the goalie,” said Williams, whose team outshot Elkhorn, 18-8.
Central hosts Lake Geneva Badger 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
