Twins suffer tough season-ending loss
The Kenosha Twins suffered an unfortunate season-ending loss to Burlington Post 79 in the American Legion Class AAA Region 7 Tournament at Simmons Field.
After Tyler Panasewicz and Nick Paura were hit in the head with pitches in the third and eighth innings, the Twins ran out of bench players and were forced to forfeit.
“It was a really disappointing way to end the season,” Twins manager Mike Tennyson said. “We played so well on Thursday night (in a victory over the second-ranked Kenosha Post 21 Merchants) and just looked like a totally different team. We’ve been a better team all summer than what we showed.”
Burlington scored four times in the second inning — highlighted by a two-run home run by Rex Morrow — but the Twins responded with three runs in the third to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Panasewicz was hit in the head to lead off the inning and was forced out of the game. Eric Corrao, Paura, Ryan Neu and Brad Hughes then hit consecutive singles to plate three runs.
Poor defense continues to hurt the Twins, though, as they gave those three runs back by committing four errors in the next two innings.
The game ended in the top of the eighth after Paura was hit in the head and was unable to continue.
“You hate for a game, and a season, to end the way this one did,” said Tennyson, whose team finished 10-12. “I’ve never seen two guys hit in the head in the same game, but partly because we had lost Tyler the night before, we had used up our bench and were not allowed to continue. It was completely unbelievable.
“Fortunately, both Tyler and Nick are doing fine now, but neither was in any condition to continue after they were beaned.”
