SOMERS — Just how well are things going for the UW-Parkside women’s basketball team?

The Rangers (10-1) captured their most-lopsided victory of the season without getting a single point from one of the most prolific scorers in school history.

Senior guard Amanda Gibson went scoreless for just the third time in 94 games as Parkside continued to build on its best start ever in pummeling Indiana-Northwest, 80-39, in a non-conference game Tuesday night at the DeSimone Gymnasium.

No rust

Playing for the first time in two weeks, the Rangers had four players score in double figures en route to their eighth consecutive win. Parkside hasn’t lost since falling to Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) on Nov. 21.

“Our mentality in the last couple weeks was to get better every single day and continue to take steps forward,” Parkside coach Jenny Kenesie said. “I think we’ve done that.”

Gibson, a four-year starter, finished with five assists and one blocked shot in 25 scoreless minutes. It was an unselfish performance, but more than anything a testament to the Rangers’ impressive depth.

Rooney scores 17

Jadee Rooney finished with a game-high 17 points, while Brittany Beyer had 15 points and nine rebounds. Jen Moran tallied 14 points and nine rebounds and Brittany Hogen had 12 points and four boards.

All 16 players on the Parkside roster saw action.

“(Gibson) did a good job of getting other people the basketball,” Kenesie said. “That’s the one nice thing about this team is there are multiple kids on the floor that can score.

“We don’t need to depend on one or two kids. I think this is the most depth we’ve ever had.”

The Rangers contained a pair of 6-foot-4 twin towers in Indiana-Northwest’s Sharon Houston and Ish Shah Terry. Houston finished with 13 points on 5-of-17 shooting and fouled out midway into the second half. Terry had 11 points and five rebounds.

‘A good test’

“This was a good test for us,” Kenesie said. “We’re going to be playing against some stronger, big kids in the league. We made it hard for them to touch the basketball.”

Indiana-Northwest (7-6) shot a dismal 28 percent (15-of-54), while Parkside shot 43 percent (31-of-72). The Rangers led 42-18 at halftime and went to their bench early in the second half.

Parkside plays at Bellarmine in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game 4:45 p.m. Saturday.
