Ventura finds the net
J.J. Ventura showed he could put the ball in the net Wednesday afternoon.
Ventura, Christian Life’s single-season and career assist leader, scored all of his team’s goal in a 3-0 win over Greendale Martin Luther in a Midwest Classic Conference soccer match in Kenosha.
“He’s capable of scoring,” said Christian Life coach Alan Krass, whose team improved to 15-5-1 overall (3-2 MCC).
Ventura gave the Eagles the lead for good in the sixth minute on a penalty kick. Ventura made it 2-0 off an assist from Sean Taylor in the 60th minute and then closed the scoring in the 68th minute.
“That was a wonderful goal,” Krass said of Ventura’s third tally. “He beat a defender and bent a shot around the kicker in the upper 90. It was a very difficult shot to defend.”
Jake Rozema was in goal for Shoreland. Krass credited Lucas Johnson and Josiah Berg with good games.
Lancers tie
St. Joseph rallied from an early two goal deficit to forge a 2-2 tie in an MCC contest at Racine Lutheran.
Racine Lutheran scored 30 seconds into the game and then got a goal off a penalty kick in the seventh minute.
Pete Collins scored in the 23rd minute and in the 46th minute for the Lancers, who are 6-13-2 and 1-3-2 in the MCC. Jared Becraft assisted on the first goal while Michael Ryan helped on the second.
St. Joseph outshot Racine Lutheran 22-8.
“We played in front of their goal (in the double overtime),” St. Joseph coach Peter Iliev said. “We had many chances to score but we never found the net.”
