Waterford holds off Central
Max Beyers scored a pair of goals but it wasn’t enough as the Central soccer team lost to Waterford 4-3 in a Southern Lakes Conference match on Monday at Silver Lake Park.
“It was just a rough night,” Central coach Jeremy Williams said. “There were six or seven cards handed out.”
The Wolverines took a 2-0 lead 12 minutes into the match, but Beyers made it 2-1 at halftime when he scored off an assist from Peter Andersen in the 26th minute.
Central (5-13-3, 2-7-2 SLC) tied it up in the 52nd minute on a penalty kick by Andersen after Sean O’Neill was tackled by the Waterford goalkeeper, resulting in a red card.
Six minutes later, Waterford regained the lead on a penalty kick of its own.
“It was kind of a makeup call from the one before,” Williams said.
The Wolverines increased their lead to 4-2 two minutes later.
Central closed out the scoring on a goal by Beyers in the 62nd minute. Spencer McCoy had the assist.
Shortly thereafter, the Falcons lost O’Neill for the rest of the match due to a red card.
Williams commended the play of Andersen on Waterford standout Phil Schuyler, the single-season school record holder in goals scored.
“Peter played extremely well tonight,” Williams said. “(Schuyler) didn’t have many opportunities.”
Panthers lose 9-3Wilmot lost by a football-like score of 9-3 in an SLC matchup at Badger.
Caesar Mendez had a goal and an assist for the Panthers (1-15-3). Jordan Bank and Shane Kilcoyne also scored goals, while Dan Szydlowski had an assist.
