White propels Pacers in shutout
With victory, Shoreland improves to 3-1 in the MCCErik White tallied two goals and one assist in leading the Shoreland Lutheran soccer team to a 3-0 Midwest Classic Conference victory over host Whitefish Bay Dominican on Wednesday night.
White scored in the 17th minute off an assist from Mike Roekle, assisted on Luke VanSant’s goal in the 29th minute and added an unassisted goal from 35 yards in the 58th minute.
“I think Erik White really had a great game,” Shoreland coach Dan Hahm said. “His two goals were both really high-class finishes.”
Ranked No. 4 in Division-3 in the latest WSCA state poll, the Pacers (11-3-2, 3-1 MCC) outshot Dominican on goal 9-1.
“Our team defense was solid,” Hahm said, crediting defenders Tyler Freitag and Adam Freitag.
“We’ve been able to limit a lot of quality shots, and that’s made it easier for Randy Mills (one save).”
Shoreland will play Antioch (Ill.) 4:30 p.m. in the Badger Tournament in Lake Geneva.
CLS cruisesNick Svehla and Sean Taylor each scored two goals as host Christian Life routed Racine Lutheran 8-1 in a Midwest Classic Conference match.
The Eagles (13-5, 2-2 MCC) led 5-1 at halftime as Svehla and Taylor scored both of their goals and Jared Ventura netted one.
“We wanted to play well early and accomplished that goal,” Christian Life coach Alan Krass said.
“The team was very focused tonight.”
Christian Life’s Kyle Zeman, Phil Duplessey and Josiah Berg added second-half goals.
It was the first varsity goal for Berg, a senior defender.
Jake Rozema made four first-half saves for the Eagles, who will host Union Grove 4:30 p.m. Friday in a homecoming game.
Lancers shut outSt. Joseph was no match for state-ranked Racine Prairie in a 6-0 Midwest Classic Conference loss to the host Hawks.
Ranked No. 2 in Division-3 in the latest WSCA state poll, Prairie (10-2, 3-1 MCC) was coming off its first conference loss of the season on Monday against St. Catherine’s.
“Mentally, we’re not there,” said St. Joseph coach Peter Iliev, whose team dropped to 5-11-1 (1-3-1 MCC).
The Hawks tallied their first goal on a penalty kick in the 15th minute and made it 2-0 five minutes later.
St. Joseph goalkeeper Chris McKeon stopped a penalty kick in the second half.
The Lancers were outshot 21-4.
Along with McKeon in goal, Iliev commended the play of midfielder Spencer Lemens.
The Lancers next play in the two-day Grafton Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

Central hosts Badger at Silver Lake Park at 4:30 p.m., while Wilmot travels to Waterford for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
