With a little help, Wilmot captures league title
The Wilmot softball team captured its conference championship since 2001 Tuesday.
The Panthers blanked Elkhorn 7-0 in Wilmot. Coupled with Badger’s victory over Union Grove, the win gave Wilmot the outright Southern Lakes Conference title.
“I’m really happy for the kids and our program,” Wilmot coach Bob Movrich said. “We’ve worked hard putting this thing together.
“We’re pretty young and I hope they realize what an accomplishment it is to win one.”
Melissa Webster (5-0) notched the victory, striking out 12 while walking just one and scattering three hits in her seven innings.
Wilmot (15-2, 10-2 SLC) busted open a 2-0 game with a three-run third innings. Jacky Bigger’s double and triples by Bailie Sheahan and Kristen Wood highlighted the frame. Kelsey Saucerman added a two-run single in the fourth inning.
The Panthers close out the regular season with a non-conference game at Muskego today.
Trojans top Case
Tremper pounded out 13 hits in its 7-4 Southeast Conference home victory over Racine Case.
Katelyn Gorman led the Trojans’ offense, going 4-for-4 with one RBI. Lauren Boresch went 2-for-3, including a two-run triple in Tremper’s five-run fifth inning, and Jessie Werbie (one RBI) and Gabbi Garcia both went 2-for-4.
Tiegen Leable took a shutout into the seventh and struck out 12 without a walk. She allowed six hits and four runs (two earned).
“Tiegen Leable pitched a great game. Her pitches were really moving and kept the Case hitters off balance,” Tremper coach Doug Townsend said.
“After pitching for the second consecutive day in the seventh, her pitches started to hang after two outs and Case hit the ball hard.
“Fortunately, the offense kept tacking on runs to give her a nice lead.”
CLS falters
Racine Lutheran got just one hit against Christian Life’s Brie Tennyson, but it was a two-run single from Sam Pederson en route to a 3-1 victory in Midwest Classic Conference action.
Brie Tennyson (12-7) walked six and struck out 11. Christian Life fell to 12-7 overall (5-3 MCC)
Tennyson went 3-for-4 with a RBI, but the Eagles mustered only one other hit against the Crusaders’ Sam Kately.
CLS hosts Whitefish Bay Domincan Thursday at Prairie Springs Park in the first round of the WIAA Division-3 Tournament.
St. Joseph blanked
After its MCC North Championship clinching doubleheader sweep of Christian Life on Monday, St. Joseph suffered a letdown with a 9-0 loss to Racine Horlick in non-conference action.
The Lancers (13-6) got just one hit and committed eight errors in the loss against the SEC foe.
Leslie Fletcher gave up four earned runs on five hits with four walks and eight strikeouts in falling to 8-3.
The Lancers host Milwaukee Heritage Christian in a WIAA Division-3 regional Thursday at Little League Park.
