Woltman medalist at U.S. Am qualifier
Two others advance to tournament in TulsaDan Woltman, Danny Zimmerman and Mike Sorenson all advanced to the U.S. Amateur Championship at a qualifying tournament Monday at Kenosha Country Club.
Woltman was the qualifying medalist for the tournament which will be held Aug. 24-30 at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. Woltman, who plays out of University Ridge Golf Course, shot a 4-under 136 over two rounds.
Woltman was tied for the lead after the morning round and shot a 3-under 67 to finish four shots ahead of Sorenson, who shot par.
There was a four-way tie for third place at 142 and Zimmerman, from Hawks Landing Golf Course, was the only player to make par on the first two playoff holes, securing the final qualifying spot.
Alternates, shooting 142, are Jonathan Bowers and Nate Dunn.
Jordan Elsen was the top local finisher. Playing on his home course, Elsen tied for 12th with a five-over 145 (73-72). Other locals competing were the KCC’s John Pallin, who tied for 23rd at 151 (79-72) and Spring Valley’s Sam Serdar, who was 59th at 163 (81-82).
Father-Son Tournament
Todd Schaap of Kenosha and Jack Schaap of Sheboygan tied for fifth at Tuesday’s WSGA Pater-Filius (Father-Son) Championship at the Golf Courses of Lawsonia-Woodlands Course.
The duo shot a two-over 74, two shots behind winners Peter Swanson and Kevin Swanson of Sheboygan.
Jordan Elsen and Rick Elsen, golfing out of the KCC, finished finished tied for ninth with a four-over 76. Also finishing ninth were Bryan Gosda of Kenosha and Al Gosda of Seymour.
Rick Elsen also played with his other son Jared. The duo finished tied for 17th with a 78. Among those the Elsens tied with were Daniel Mueller and Lukas Mueller of Brighton Dale Links.
Other local finishers were Sam Serdar and David Serdar of Spring Valley, tied for 76th at 87; Robert Sobol and Chet Sobol, Spring Valley, tied for 97th at 90 and Leo Gallo of Bristol Oaks and Marcus Gallo of Rivermoor, 116th at 98.
Wilber Warren III of Kenosha and Wilber Warren IV of Cedarburg finished sixth in the low gross open division with an 84.
