How to Protect Your
Healthy, normal hearing is truly a gift. Just ask someone
who has hearing loss. Better yet, ask the family and
friends of someone who has hearing loss. It’s not only the
person who has hearing loss that is affected by it. When
a spouse has a hearing loss they are BOTH disconnected
from each other. Good hearing is worth protecting.
Some hearing loss is inevitable. Two out of three
persons over the age of 75 will have hearing loss. Some
families have a predisposition to hearing loss. These are
unavoidable, but noise induced hearing loss is definitely
something you can prevent.

So how much noise is too much? This short article is not meant to be a
comprehensive list but a brief description of noise to avoid. The bottom line is this:
wear ear plugs whenever you will be exposed to loud sounds such as a lawn mower,
a concert, gun fire, or any other loud and repetitive noise. When it comes to listening
to music with ear phones on, make sure you can hear and understand someone who
is talking to you while the music is playing. This will help to ensure you are listening at
a safe level.
If you suspect you already have hearing loss, get a thorough hearing evaluation
and see what can be done to help. In general, the sooner someone starts with
hearing aids the better they will do. Call us to schedule a free hearing evaluation and
