Volunteers sought to put flags on vets’ graves

David Leet American Legion Post 552 in Somers is looking for volunteers to help place flags on veterans’ graves.

This event will take place at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park, 4300 Green Bay Road starting at 8 a.m. Thursday.

Volunteers should meet at the old chapel.

Sailing scholarships now available

Applicants are being sought for the Hartley Family Youth Sailing Scholarship.

The scholarship is a collaboration between the Kenosha Community Sailing Center, the Kenosha Yacht Club and the Hartley Family, and is managed by the Kenosha Community Foundation.

One or more scholarships will be provided to youth ages 6-15 for a one-week program with the Kenosha Community Sailing Center.

Organization offering grants to sports teams

The Kenosha Simmons Baseball Organization is seeking youth sports teams (in any sport) in the Kenosha community that might be in need of donations/grants to support their programs.

Computer tutoring for adults offered at library

One-on-one computer tutoring for adults is available at Community Library in Salem Lakes, 24615 89th St.

Library staff is available at select times to help with individual computer questions on basic topics including how to search the online catalog, how to use e-books, how to use library databases, and how to set up an email account.

Appointments are limited to 35 minutes. Call 262-843-3348 to make an appointment. Appointments should be made at least a week in advance.

Resale shop offers furniture pickup

Nifty Thrifty Resale Shop picks up furniture donations on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. Call 262-605-3326 to schedule an appointment.

The shop cannot accept upholstered furniture, televisions, car seats, cribs, mattresses, large appliances or large fitness equipment.

Donations are tax deductible. All proceeds benefit Women and Children’s Horizons.

Donations can also be dropped off at the shop, 4200 39th Ave., during regular store hours: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Transportation service available; drivers sought

Those having difficulty finding transportation to medical appointments or shopping can get help through the Volunteer Transportation Service.

Sponsored by Kenosha Area Family and Aging Services Inc., the service helps Kenosha County seniors and those with disabilities attend local and regional medical appointments and go grocery shopping.

Volunteers, especially bilingual (English/Spanish) speakers, are needed to drive for the service. Times are flexible, and drivers are reimbursed 42 cents per mile.

A good driving record, a car in good working condition and insurance coverage are required. For more information, call Barb at 262-842-7433.
