Stanley and Dorothy Kerkman of Waterford will mark their 70th wedding anniversary with an open house on Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. at Local Folks at Slades Corners.
Stanley met Dorothy Nienhaus at a dance in Randall Town Hall. They were married Aug. 27, 1949, at Holy Name Church in Wilmot and lived in Kenosha County for 64 years.
They have four children: Ken (Karen) Kerkman of Burlington; Diane (Norm) Pluess, of East Troy; Gary (Marta) Kerkman of Burlington; and Patti kerkman of Burlington. They also have 14 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Stanley worked with Kerkman Brothers construction, retiring at age 65. Dorothy worked as housewife. She had beautiful flower gardens and loved taking care of the animals and their hobby farm.
Both are lifetime members of Saint Alphonsus Catholic Church in New Munster.
Stanley was on the Kenosha County Board for 24 years and was chairman for two of those years. They both served Meals on Wheels for 17 years in Twin Lakes.
Their advice for a long and successful marriage: Love and respect each other. A family that prays together, stays together. A little humor goes a long way.
