Donn and Michaelyn “Lynn” (Ashmus) Beck, who are Kenosha natives, but just returned to the area a month ago after a 51-year absence, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a family dinner at Hob Nob Restaurant in July. They plan to continue the celebration with a family vacation at a later date.
The couple met in a basic computer class, studying the binary system, at Gateway Technical College. On their first date, they went to the drive-in, where they talked through the whole movie. Donn and Lynn were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kenosha on July 27, 1968.
Donn served in the military, stationed in Germany. He built his 38-year career at SC Johnson, working in Chicago, Minneapolis, Canada and Racine, before retiring in 2006. Lynn worked as a district manager and then became co-owner of Ashmus Belting with their son. She retired in 2012.
The Becks have two children, both of Kenosha: Kimmberly Beck Peters, Matt (Nicole) Beck; and five grandchildren.
They attribute the success of their union to “love of our family, forgiveness, remembering the good times and a little wine.”
