Lifelong Kenosha residents LeRoy and Madeline Girard celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a surprise party hosted by their children at the VFW in Kenosha on Aug. 11.
LeRoy and the former Madeline Buttera were introduced by her brother, Nick, and were united in marriage at St. Therese Church on Aug. 24, 1968.
LeRoy worked as a polisher for Johnson Motors for 30 years, as a shipping supervisor for Coke for 12 years and in housekeeping for Abbott Laboratories for 14 years before retiring. He enjoys attending Cubs games with his sons and going fishing at their place up north. Madeline worked for McDonald’s, Sears and KFC before joining the Kenosha News, where she continues to work after 25 years of service. LeRoy occasionally works alongside his wife in a Kenosha News kiosk during special events. Madeline enjoys going to play bingo with her daughter, her sister Betsy and her niece, Melissa. The couple is looking forward to becoming great-grandparents in the fall.
The Girards have three children: LeRoy (Suzanne) Girard III of Racine; Kim Gorr of Kenosha; and Jeff Girard of Bristol. They also have one grandson and seven granddaughters.
LeRoy and Madeline treat one another like a king and queen, respectively, and attribute the strength and longevity of their marriage to communication and love.
