Tremper High School
Parents: George and Kimberly Snyder
Most memorable high school moment: I will never forget standing on the counterfeit-filled sidewalks of Chinatown in New York City, dumping soup broth into the street with my beloved wind ensemble friends.
Most influential teacher: Mrs. Kathy Ripley
Class taught: Band
Please explain why: Mrs. Ripley conducted my instrument try-out some eight years ago; I vividly remember her ecstatic demeanor when I expressed interest in playing the horn. A year later, I had the pleasure of playing under her in her last year teaching at Lance Middle School. There, she was a fantastic educator and motivator, always challenging us with difficult repertoire and practice regimens. When I started at Tremper, I was ecstatic to be back under Ripley’s baton. With her guidance, I placed in Tremper’s top ensemble as a sophomore. Ripley is always there for me, whether I want to play through an excerpt, chat about composers, or hear one of her numerous “back on the farm in Iowa” stories. My fondest high school memories are set in the band room and in the company of Mrs. Kathy Ripley.

What I hope to accomplish in my lifetime: I am enthralled by the concept of “green building,” which is a contemporary architectural strategy focused on integrating self-sustainable and energy-efficient systems into structures. Though this technology would contribute to a greater environmental future, it is hardly attainable. In college, I wish to research more cost-efficient ways to employ sustainable systems on a larger scale.
